Keep your training session successful by following these rules of thumb.
-practice your training exercises in a non-distracting environment so your dog stays focused.
-use high value of food that the dog does not get regularly, so the dog stays motivated.
-train for short periods at a time. Literally 2 to 3 minutes, and then take a break. This keeps the dog excited about the behavior and performance and prevents frustration or boredom.
-Keep it light! Your dog loves it when you’re happy with them, your praise and affection is important. Use it!!
-set realistic expectations and goals! Hold yourself accountable by asking this question after every session, “ Am I better off now than when I started?”
